Coughlin Donates $168,000 from ‘Bowl for Hunger’ to Food Pantries

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin delivered $168,365, from July’s “Bowl for Hunger” fundraiser, to benefit 30 food pantries in the 19th legislative district towns that he represents.

The money will help fight food insecurity in Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy, and Woodbridge, Coughlin said in a prepared statement.

Coughlin presented a ceremonial check on Wednesday, Aug. 28th, at Acacia Youth Center in Woodbridge where he was joined by Mayor John E. McCormac and representatives from many area food pantries.

Food pantries play a crucial support role for people and families who face food insecurity, offering not only groceries but access to nutritious foods like fruit and vegetables that might otherwise be out of reach for them.

Coughlin founded the Bowl for Hunger charitable organization in 2010 to fight hunger in communities in his district.

This year’s 15th annual Bowl for Hunger fundraiser was held on July 15th at Majestic Lanes in Perth Amboy, setting a new record with over $160,000 in donations.

Since its inception, Bowl for Hunger has raised over $595,000 for the food pantries.
