    16-Year-Old Charged In Connection with Friday Night’s Shooting at PCTI in Wayne, NJ

    WAYNE, NJ – The Passaic County Prosecutor, Camelia M. Valdes released a statement regarding the shooting incident at the Passaic County Vocational-Technical Schools that happened Friday night in Wayne, New Jersey. A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with “acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of Attempted Murder, first degree, if the juvenile was an adult,” among other charges.

    “At approximately 7:33 p.m. on August 30, 2024, members of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office were at Passaic County Technical Institute following a football game when a shooting occurred,” reads her statement. “Police located a 15-year-old juvenile and a 16-year-old juvenile suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds.”

    “Both victims were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. Police located a potential crime scene in the area where the victims were located. The subsequent investigation revealed a juvenile was responsible for the shooting.”

    Since the suspect is a 16-year-old juvenile, no name or other information about the person was shared.

    The other charges included “acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of”  2 nd degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and 2 nd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, “if the juvenile was an adult,” according to the statement.

    The ongoing investigation is being undertaken by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Gary F. Giardina.

    “A juvenile delinquency complaint is merely an accusation,” reads the prosecutor’s statement. “Despite these accusations, the juveniles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The matter has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court, Juvenile Part, for further proceedings.”
