Football: Hunterdon Central Hammers North Hunterdon, 42-14, in Opener

FLEMINGTON, NJ -- Hunterdon Central scored four touchdowns in the third quarter and went on to a 42-14 football victory over North Hunterdon in the opener for both teams on Saturday.

Giovanni Veliz rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries for the Red Devils, who led, 15-7, at halftime before scoring 27 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Drew Cella threw three touchdown passes for Hunterdon Central. Cella finished with 154 yards through the air.

James Mongno caught a 9-yard TD pass from Cella and Nick Vasquez hauled in a pair of scoring strikes from Cella in the third quarter, including one that covered 71 yards.

Jayden Cozze finished with 37 yards on eight carries for Hunterdon Central, which will play at home against Monroe on Friday, Sept. 6.
