BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge girls soccer team will open its 2024 season against Montgomery at home at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Head coach Katie Donahue, now in her 18th season, has a career record of 225-97-37, and, while last season's team posted a 4-14 record, it's uncanny how close the Red Devils came to winning a lot more than four games.

Ridge lost nine of its last 10 games in 2023 by one goal apiece, playing consistently competitive games against a tough schedule. The Red Devils lost each of their last three games by 1-0 scores.

"We're looking to see how we come together as a team to compete in our conference schedule," Donahue said. “We have a few additions and returning players that will make an impact for us and our 'We > Me' vibe this season.”

Junior center-midfielder Nicole Gebert and junior forward Maddy Landes combined for three goals and three assists as sophomores last year, and they represent the most accomplished of the Red Devils' returning offensive threats. Junior Emily Weiner also played quite a bit on the front line last year.

Ridge's ability to contain opposing attacks kept the Red Devils in virtually every game. The Red Devils look to center-midfielder Angie Molinari, outside back Hannah Levitz and center back Avery Ligozio -- all seniors -- and to junior goalie Ava Yiu to help keep opponents off the scoreboard.

"We have a great group of student-athletes working hard to step up and represent the program and culture that is RIdge soccer," Donahue said. “Ava Yiu, our goalie, was sidelined most of the season. We're looking forward to see players step up and contribute.”

Some new names who'll have a chance to contribute include freshman forward Daphne Geordgiades, junior back Andrea Dulyn, sophomore midfielder Caroline Anderson, junior back Brooke Anderson and freshman goalie Aiza Baig.
