ASBURY PARK,NJ - As the new school year approaches, the Asbury Park School District is set to receive a substantial investment of $250,000 to enhance its mental health programs, thanks to new funding announced by Senator Vin Gopal, Assemblywoman Margie Donlon, M.D., and Assemblywoman Luanne Peterpaul (D-Monmouth). This funding is part of a broader $850,000 initiative aimed at strengthening mental health support across multiple Monmouth County school districts, including six in Legislative District 11.

The funding allocated to Asbury Park Schools will be used to expand and enhance comprehensive mental health services, providing students with critical resources to manage their well-being effectively. "Ensuring that our students have access to robust mental health resources is essential for their overall well-being and academic success," said Senator Vin Gopal, who chairs the Senate Education Committee. "By investing in mental health programs, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also fostering long-term resilience and academic achievement."

Assemblywoman Donlon emphasized the direct impact of this funding on the school environment, stating, "The mental health of our students directly influences their academic performance and overall quality of life. This funding will empower our local schools to provide the necessary support and create a healthier learning environment for our children."

In addition to Asbury Park, other districts receiving support include Eatontown Public Schools, Tinton Falls School District, Red Bank Borough Public Schools, Shrewsbury Borough School District, Fair Haven Public Schools, and Ocean Township School District, each of which will receive $100,000. This funding will help these districts strengthen their mental health programs, promoting a supportive and nurturing educational environment.

Assemblywoman Peterpaul highlighted the importance of mental health support in schools: "Strengthening mental health support across our school districts is a top priority. This budget allocation will ensure that schools are equipped to handle the mental health needs of their students, from early intervention to ongoing support."

These efforts by Gopal, Donlon, and Peterpaul are part of a larger initiative to prioritize mental health and education within the community. As students and educators prepare to return to school, these investments will play a crucial role in ensuring a supportive and successful academic year for all.
