UNION, NJ – A woman and her dog were struck by a vehicle on Springfield Avenue very early Saturday morning.

According to Union Fire Chief Greg Ricciardi, the woman was apparently walking her dog at just before 1 a.m. when she and the dog were struck near 2062 Springfield Avenue in Vauxhall.

Ricciardi said the woman was assessed and transported by Union's Emergency Medical Unit to University Hospital in Newark.  He said she was assessed to be in stable condition at that time.

Because of the dog’s condition, Union firefighters brought the pet to the emergency animal clinic on Route 22. He said as of transport, the dog appeared to be stable as well.

There is currently no additional information available about the accident; the investigation is ongoing.

I'm glad the woman and the dog are going to be ok. But my question is why did they have to take her to university hospital? I think overlook was way closer.

I’m glad she and the pup are OK and recovering, but I must say I wouldn’t be out on a weekend at that time walking around. I am so afraid of these drunk drivers not saying that that was the case because they don’t say much about it but it is not safe!! ,
