    PHILLIPSBURG, NJ - Junior Austin Olexa, sophomore Anthony Pettinelli and senior Jacobi Pepingco led the Phillipsburg High School boy’s cross country team to a fourth place finish out of 16 teams in the Blue Division in the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday morning at Kutztown University’s Farm Course.

    Olexa finished ninth overall individually in a time of 17:41.30, Pettinelli came in 14 th in a time of 17:55.30 and Pepingco placed 20 th in 18:03.90 in a field of 130 runners.

    Oley Valley junior Ryan Gourley was the individual medalist in a time of 16:33.40 while Holy Ghost Preparatory won the team championship with 55 points.

    Stateliner sophomore Kevin Kastner contributed a 44 th place finish (19:14.80) while junior Joe Rasely (19:38.70) and senior Gavin Hawk (19:40.90) came in back-to-back at 51 st and 52 nd place, respectively.

    “The kids ran well today,” boys coach Bill Hurst said. “For the second week in a row Austin, Anthony and Jacobi ran tough. Young guys like Kevin and Joe are still learning how to race but they are fast learners. Overall, it’s been a solid start to the season.”


    In the girl’s race , sophomore Adelyn Davis finished an impressive eighth out of a field of 124 runners in a time of 21:06.20 to lead the Stateliners to a seventh-place finish out of 16 teams with 181 points. Sophomore Annie Moniz won the individual race in a time 19:09.10 to lead her Lower Moreland team to the team title with 49 points.

    Phillipsburg junior Emily Tennant posted a time of 22:21.20 to finish 23 rd , and freshman Abby Carrig placed 25 th in 22:36.50.

    “Addy ran great again and she is just going to continue to improve all season,” P’burg girls coach Jenna Sokolowski said of her first year runner. “Emily is great for Abby to run with and they are going to push each other all season.”

    Other ‘Liner runners included senior Camila Quinones (67 th ), junior Alina Joseph (90 th ), junior Alona Cherian (93 rd ), freshman Quinn Foschetti (102nd) and junior Rebecca Torres (117 th ).

    “Camila finished fourth for us, and this is all new to her, being a senior and first-time runner,” Sokolowski said. “Alina was cleared to run, and when she gets back into her best shape, she should be up with Emily and Abby, which will give us a strong four-pack. What we need is the fifth through seventh runners to push for faster times.”
