BASKING RIDGE, NJ - Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. hosted his second annual Seniors of Distinction event September 13, 2024 at the Bridgewater Township Senior Center.
Congressman Kean honored 29 seniors, who represent all six counties in New Jersey’s 7 th Congressional District. Each senior was nominated by their friends, families, and neighbors and recognized at the event. Among the honorees was Kathleen “Kippy” Piedici of Basking Ridge.
The seniors who were selected were chosen for their long history of giving back to their community and for continuing to lend their expertise, experience and many talents to helping and supporting others today. Every honoree has a long list of achievements but more important, a long list of professional, philanthropic, charitable, and spiritual activities to which they devote their time and energy to every day.
Piedici said she was nominated and honored because of the work she does for the land use board and the Library Board of Trustees of Bernards Township. Piedici served on the Bernards Township Planning Board for ten years, six of which she held the position of chair. Government and politics are Piedici’s passions and she said serving on local boards was a “perfect fit.” When asked what she enjoys about volunteering her time to serve on local boards, Piedici said, “This is a way for me to participate in government.”
Land use in particular is a concern of hers and Piedici called the issue “’very critical” due in part to the amount of applications which come through and the need to make sure the character of the neighborhood is consistent. According to Piedici, “Land use is a fundamental thing in New Jersey.”
Piedici encourages residents who wish to get involved to complete the Bernards Township “Tap TheTalent” form on the website , adding that there are boards for every interest from Parks and Recreation to The Golf Advisory Board, as well as shorter term ad hoc boards. She added that in New Jersey in particular every town has volunteer based boards and “It’s very easy if you want to get involved.”
Piedici called Bernards Township a “welcoming community” and said that what she enjoys about living here is that, “We care about each other as residents and treat each other with respect.”
“All the seniors honored dedicate their talents, passions and experience toward enriching the well-being of New Jersey communities,” said Congressman Kean. “Their impressive achievements and extensive involvement in both professional and volunteer activities reflect their dedication and hard work. I extend my warmest congratulations to all the seniors recognized today and thank them for their tireless efforts to uplift our communities.”
