GLEN ROCK, NJ - Long-time Board of Education trustee Elizabeth Carr resigned at Monday night's Board of Education meeting, citing “misinformation” and a “lack of trust” that she now says prohibits her from doing her job as a trustee.

Fellow board members were clearly surprised when she made the announcement on September 23 during the new business portion of the meeting and then walked out.

Prior to leaving, she said the following:

“When I ran for the Board of Education for the second time, it was because I wanted to continue to benefit the students of this district and the staff. Over the last 20 months, it has grown increasingly hard to do what I've set out to do. I feel as though I have failed, and subsequently my decision after hearing tonight's meeting and what transpired in the process, I am submitting my resignation from the Board of Education effective tonight.”

Carr voted no on hiring a new head coach for the girls basketball team. Several members of the public complained during the public portion of the meeting that the junior varsity girls basketball coach, Sara Wolman, should have been given greater consideration for the head coaching job after serving the district's basketball program for 14 years. The board instead voted to hire Joseph Kirk for the position.

On September 20, 2024, the following coaching jobs for Glen Rock were listed on The Bergen Record's website: “Glen Rock seeks an assistant varsity ice hockey coach, head girls varsity basketball coach, assistant junior varsity girls basketball coach, head winter track and field coach and assistant winter track and field coach. Send letter of application and resume to Frank Violante, A.D. violantef@glenrocknj.org.

Carr also said the following before leaving the meeting: “It's become increasingly hard to do your job when you're misinformed and uninformed, and you cannot make correct decisions when there is a lack of trust. And that's how I feel on September 23rd, 2024. The work that I've done for the students and the staff in this district since 2006, I feel I can no longer do, and I'm sorry. I want to thank everybody who voted for me. It's been an honor and a pleasure, and my door is still going to be open and my phone is still going to be answered.”
