“Newark Porchfest is a great community event that truly brings people together through music," Jackie Jay, president of the Forest Hill Community Association, said in a statement to TAPinto Newark. "It’s a day filled with performances, kids laughing, neighbors smiling, and visitors discovering the rich history and architectural beauty of our Forest Hill Historic District."

Before Porchfest kicks off, families are invited to “Kid's Fest” from 11 a.m. to noon, featuring a performance of “Peter and the Wolf” by the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players, along with other kid-friendly activities, organizers said. A variety of food trucks will also be available throughout the day, offering an array of options to enjoy, according to the organizers.

New this year will be “Spin City,” a DJ-fueled backyard dance party with three local DJs spinning" the most infectious dance tracks from across the decades" in the leafy backyard of Forest Hill mansion, organizers said.

Also among the performers in the lineup are jazz singer Carrie Jackson & Her Jazzin' All Stars, gospel pop and soul artist William LaVant, soul-jazz violinist Charisa the ViolinDiva and spoken word artist and photographer Ameerah Shabazz.
