KENILWORTH, NJ - The Brearley Girls Varsity Soccer team once again made fans proud riding a five-game win streak, highlighted by a victory at New Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 24, defeating the Pioneers 3-1.
Highlights of the game from Head Coach Mario Della Fortuna include:
Georgia Sode put Brearley ahead toward the end of the 1st half off a great through ball from Juliana Ballesteros. Samantha Dias added to Brearley's lead after a rebound off a corner kick found her on the edge of the box. Georgia Sode added her second to close out the scoring off a great through ball from Alexa Rivera to give Brearley the 3-0 win. Jessica Martin had 5 saves for Brearley and Sofia Zamora had 6 saves for New Providence.
“This was a total team win” Coach Della Fortuna said. "We started out with a strong defensive play that translated into offense at the important times. As a team, we try to play the game 10 minutes at a time. Win the first ten minutes of the game and that give us a great chance to win. With that philosophy it allows the game to slow down for the girls and helps them maintain their high performance. Every girl shares an important roles, when they get their opportunity. It is really fun to watch and makes me proud to be their coach."
Now at 6-1, the Lady Bears are eager to maintain their momentum and are working hard as they prepare for a showdown against the Hilltoppers. The Summit Girls Soccer Team battled from behind against Gov. Livingston on Tuesday, rallying to a 3-2 triumph. With the win, the Lady Hilltoppers stand at 4-2-1.
Both teams are set to challenge each other on Friday, Sept. 27, at SHS Upper Turf Field at 6:30 p.m.
