ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Former Councilmember Joseph DeIorio was issued a fine for $750 by the New Jersey Local Finance Board for improprieties related to his voting on selling a garbage truck to the Borough of Kenilworth while he was the chief financial officer in the town.

The notice of violation issued this summer and recently publicly released involves the sale of a garbage truck by Roselle Park in 2020. DeIorio was actively a member of the Roselle Park council and Kenilworth's head finance official at the time. He no longer holds either position.

Two municipalities - Kenilworth and Bayonne - expressed an interest in purchasing the vehicle, with Bayonne offering $500 more. At the time, DeIorio claimed that in his professional capacity in Kenilworth he did not participate in the bid preparation; however, he advocated from the council dais in Roselle Park in favor of taking the lower bid.

The local finance board found that DeIorio violated New Jersey's ethics laws by having a conflict of interest, unwarranted privilege and impaired objectivity. He was fined $250 for each of the three violations.

DeIorio still has the opportunity to request a hearing before an administrative law judge challenging the notice of violation from the board.
