GLEN ROCK, NJ - The junior varsity girls basketball coach who was originally passed over for the varsity head coach position has now been offered the job, according to parents and friends of the coach.
On Monday, Sept. 23, district parents and friends of Sara Wolman appeared before the Board of Education to make the case to hire Wolman. The district put Joseph Kirk on the agenda as the hire and the board voted to hire Kirk, 5-2. Elizabeth Carr and Sharon Scarpelli voted against the hire. Carr, shortly after the vote, resigned from the board.
On Tuesday, parents circulated an email reporting Kirk declined the job and Wolman had then been offered the position.
An online petition with 561 signatures read as follows prior to the news Wolman had been offered the job:
On September 23rd, 2024, the Glen Rock Board of Education approved a new Head Coach for the Glen Rock High School Girls Varsity position. This was done without any proper consideration for the current Junior Varsity Coach, Coach Sara Wolman. Coach Sara, a GRHS alum and former collegiate player, has been involved with the High School basketball program and has helped with the youth league programs for over a decade. The other coach that was chosen for the job however has no experience living, playing, or attending a Glen Rock school. Initially, when the Varsity Head Coach position was vacated, the Athletic Director failed to contact Coach Sara about the opening. Additionally, Coach Sara was only given a ten minute interview on the Friday Afternoon four days before the Board of Education posted the agenda with the new Coach's name at noon on Monday. Please sign this petition to give Coach Sara an equal chance at the Girls Varsity Coaching position.
