One Arrested, Two Identified in Paterson Armed Robbery

PATERSON, NJ - One suspect has been arrested, and two more have been identified in connection with a high-profile armed robbery that occurred on Main Street on Friday, September 20, Paterson Police Department Officer in Charge Isa Abbassi announced.

According to a statement, the robbery took place around 1:53 PM in the 300 block of Main Street. Officers responded to reports of a robbery in progress but found that the suspects had already fled the scene in a vehicle. At least five victims reported being approached on the sidewalk by three males dressed in all black and armed with long guns. They were robbed at gunpoint of cash, jewelry, phones, and a key fob. None of the victims sustained injuries during the incident.

Following the robbery, PPD members began their investigation to identify and locate the suspects. Their efforts led to the arrest of one individual, identified as 23-year-old Nazier Balmer of Paterson, early the next morning. The remaining two suspects have also been identified, and the police are actively pursuing them.

“The men and women of the Paterson Police Department continue to exceed all expectations,” Abbassi said, expresing confidence that the other suspects will be apprehended. “They are the true protectors of this city, there when people need them most with a quiet and composed strength of character that can rise above any distraction."

Balmer faces several charges with a maximum jail time of up to 20 years, including two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and two counts of accomplice liability. He is also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
