Welcome back to another edition of the Red Bank Beat. I want to start off by thanking all of you who attended last week’s Red Bank Oktoberfest.

We had almost 3,000 people at Edmund Wilson Plaza to bask in the beautiful sunshine, listen to a fabulous oompah band, sample great local beers, wines and spirits, eat some amazing food and basically just have a great time!

I especially want to thank our staff and all the volunteers who made it happen, as well as our main partners Triumph Brewing and the Two River Theater for hosting us. Soon we’ll announce the date for the 3rd annual Oktoberfest. In the meantime, let’s get back to the Beat.

WHAT’S IT WORTH EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL THE SPRING

On Saturday, we were all excited to present What’s It Worth – a brand new event where you can get your items appraised and view some cool antique cars over at the Galleria, but unfortunately, Mother Nature has a different plan for us. This was planned as an outdoor event, and since we’re expecting rain in the forecast, we need to postpone the event. We plan to present the event some time in the Spring, so be on the lookout for news about that in early 2025 on our social media and in our newsletter. We’re bummed about it, but you know what they say – it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature!

    AMERICAN MARIACHI PREMIERES AT
    THE TWO RIVER THEATER
Speaking of the aforementioned Two River Theater, their 2024-25 season kicks off this weekend with a brand new comedy full of humor, heart and playful live music called American Mariachi. It’s a story about two cousins who want to start an all-girl mariachi band back in the seventies. Although neither one of them play instruments nor have the right costumes, they are determined to make their mariachi dreams come true! It sounds like a great show – in fact, I have tickets to see it myself next week!
There are a lot of special events happening around some of the performances, including a talk with Artistic Director Justin Waldman and director James Vásquez before the show on October 2, a celebration of local latin music with Lakehouse Music Academy on October 13 at 7 PM and a drag night on October 18 at 5:30 PM. Regular ticket prices range from $45 to $80 depending on the the date and time of the show and the selected seats. A number of $25 tickets are available for each performance, and under 35 tickets are $35 for every performance. You can purchase tickets at the Two River Theater box office or online at this link.
    WE’RE PAINTING THE TOWN PURPLE
    FOR 180 TURNING LIVES AROUND

Many of you may be familiar with the nonprofit organization 180 Turning Lives Around . For those that aren’t, 180 is the lead domestic violence and sexual assault agency for Monmouth County. For the last 50 years, 180 has been providing free and confidential counseling and safe house services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. Unfortunately, domestic violence is still very much a problem, not just in New Jersey, but nationally, and 180 is the go-to resource for those suffering from domestic violence in all 53 municipalities in Monmouth County.

DOWNLOAD THE FREE TAPINTO APP FOR MORE LOCAL NEWS. AVAILABLE IN THE APPLE STORE AND THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE .

Each October, 180 recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month in an effort to spread awareness about the issue and the resources they provide. There are several events that benefit the organization which we’ll be informing you about during the month, including the June and Joy Fashion Show over at the Galleria tonight, Thursday, September 26 from 6 to 8 PM, where all the proceeds go to support 180. (You can register for your free ticket on Eventbrite with this link. Thanks June and Joy!) Some of our businesses will be raising money for the organization during October. Also, the borough of Red Bank will be painting the stripe down the middle of Broad Street purple for the occasion, and they’ll be putting purple wreaths around some of the telephone poles in town. So, we’re going all out to raise awareness for 180 in October, and we invite you to join us in supporting this extremely worthwhile cause.
