PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway scored three touchdowns in the first half and went on to a 25-0 football victory over South Brunswick on Thursday night.

Midway through the first quarter, Piscataway (3-2) took a 6-0 lead on a 12-yard run by James Bodley.

Landon Pernell's 8-yard TD pass to Jahai Johnson with 2:52 left in the first quarter extended the Chiefs' lead to 12-0. Pernell connected with Johnson on a 24-yard scoring pass with 4:49 left in the opening half to make it 18-0.

Bodley's second touchdown of the game, a 4-yard run with 32 seconds to go in the third quarter, gave Piscataway their final touchdown.

“We played great team football today. We talked about getting a shutout. We went out there and did it,” said Johnson. “Everybody did their job, nobody tried to overdo their part and this is the outcome that we get.”

With the win, the Chiefs record moves to 3-2, 2-0 in the Big Central-National Gold division. But Piscataway head coach, Dan Higgins said the team has a lot of work to do to get ready for rival Sayreville next week.

“It’s another level, it’s a rivalry game,” said Higgins. “We’re going to have to play better in all three phases, but we made a lot of growth from last week to this week. We keep getting better, and that’s the most important thing to me. The Week of Practice was really, really good.”

“I think the offense can tighten up the blocks, but as long as we keep doing our part, I think we’re going to be good going into Sayreville,” added Johnson.

Other Chiefs action on Thursday saw losses for girls soccer and volleyball, and a tie for boys soccer.

Girls varsity soccer traveled to Metuchen with the Bulldogs finding the net 3 times in the first half, and another in the second, shutting out the Chiefs 4-0.

In volleyball, Woodbridge dominated each period, shutting out the Chiefs 2-0. Piscataway’s Milani Washington posted 9 kills and a block from Channen Doman. Woodbridge’s Ashley Torok finished with 13 kills and a block, while Kylie Rackett posted 16 assists.

Boys soccer traveled to Colonia where the match ended tied with neither team scoring. Chiefs’ goalie Omar Omran recorded 8 saves.
