RANDOLPH, NJ- The Randolph girls soccer team started their 2024 campaign on a hot streak, ripping off five straight wins out of the gate to move up in the state rankings.  But the Lady Rams knew full well that this year’s schedule would bring tougher teams to the pitch, and they saw that in their two most recent games.  ( Link to photos from Knolls game at end of story )

Facing stronger, more resilient foes in Chatham and Morris Knolls, the Rams held leads in both games but couldn’t hold on for the win, dropping both games in the final minutes of play.

Against Chatham, they built an early 3-0 lead behind goals from JoJo DeNegri, Rylie VanWingerden, and Carlie Wysocki.  But the Cougars came back in the second half, scoring three to tie and send the game to OT. Within the first minute of overtime, Chatham scored again to take the win.

Then, on Tuesday Sept. 24, Randolph took a 1-0 first half lead on a goal from Wysocki.  Early in the second half, the Rams were dominating possession of the ball in their offensive end for the first ten minutes.

But in minute eleven, the tide turned, and a direct kick for a goal tied the game up.  With time winding down to about a minute left, a corner kick was pinballed around two to three times before it found its way into the top left corner of the net for a 2-1 Knolls lead, and the game ended at that score.

After not facing much adversity in 2023, these early season tough tests and lessons should be beneficial – helping to harden them for later in the season when it matters most – in County and State tournament games.
