    Woodbridge Mayor’s Message, Sept. 27, 2024

    This is Mayor John McCormac. Today is Friday September 27.

    Tonight, Anchors Tiki Bar has a Caribbean solo singer called “Hoova the Groova” and tomorrow night they have “Donna & Nicky,” both at 6 pm, with “Bill & Andy” Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Also on Saturday night we have “Dueling Impersonators” at the Avenel Performing Arts Center at 8 pm.

    Saturday is our last Farmer’s Market of the year from 9 am to 1 pm at Parker Press Park, and it’s also National Public Lands Day with big cleanups planned all over town.

    Also on Saturday, the Colonia American Legion has a barbecue party to raise funds for a member battling an illness from 1 to 6 pm and the Woodbridge Brew Pub has former Yankees Wade Boggs, Bucky Dent and Goose Gossage signing autographs from 4 pm to 6 pm, followed by Paul O’Neill on Monday from 6 to 8 pm.

    The Woodbridge Knights of Columbus has a blood drive tomorrow from 8 am to 1 pm and St. John Vianney has one Sunday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

    Sunday, the Middlesex County Jazz Festival is at Parker Press Park at 3 pm with the “Woodbridge Jazz Choir” followed by “Brandon Woody” at 4 pm and headliner “Stephan Wremble” at 5:15 pm.

    The American Irish Association has their Halfway to St. Patrick’s event honoring Township Food Bank Leaders Sunday from 1 to 5 pm at the Acacia Center.

    Anchors Tiki Bar has a cornhole tournament on Monday at 7 pm and Country Line Dancing on Tuesday at 7 pm.

    Our Mobile Health Unit will be at the Evergreen Senior Center on Monday 10 am to 2 pm; the We Feed Food Pantry at 393 Pearl Street on Wednesday 11 am to 3 pm; the Community Center on Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm; and at Fords Park on Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and then Five Branches Senior Center from 1 to 3 pm on Friday.

    Wednesday is “ National Coffee with a Cop Day ” at the Wawa on Route 9 from 7 to 9 am and at 7 pm the Main Library has “The Mysterious Life and Death of Edgar Allan Poe” at 7 pm and Curtains has Karaoke at 7 pm. Thursday, the Main Library has “Bomba Beats: Journey into Puerto Rico’s Heritage Through Music and Dance” at 7 pm.

    Thank you to everyone who made our 2024 Summer Concert Series a success, including our Recreation Department who books the bands and handles all the arrangements, our Police and Emergency Management employees who keep everyone safe, our Parks Division who sets up and cleans up and our food drive volunteers.

    So, my dopey friend’s doctor told him he had high blood pressure and short-term memory loss and he said, “Well at least I don’t have high blood pressure!”
