MAPLEWOOD, NJ __ The South Orange & Maplewood School District has reported that social media posts circulating online have threatened Columbia High School and local police are investigating.

Supt. Jason Bing wrote to the community on Sunday about what he called a “concerning situation” involving the threat. He said the district was informed of the posts this weekend.

He noted the district takes any threats seriously and both the Maplewood and South Orange police are actively investigating the credibility of the threat.

“We are working closely with the Maplewood and South Orange police departments to ensure every precaution is taken to keep students and staff safe,” Bing wrote.

Columbia will start at its regular time on Monday, Bing said. CHS Administration will continue to partner with counselors, social workers, and the local police departments to support the school community.

He encouraged anyone with concerns about school or community safety and security to contact a building administrator or use the district’s online reporting tool .

“We will continue to keep you updated as the investigation progresses, and we appreciate your cooperation and support during this time,” Bing wrote.
