    Johnson Girls Soccer Team Celebrates Seniors

    CLARK, NJ — The Johnson girls soccer team honored its seniors on its home field behind the high school on Saturday, September 28. Following the celebration, ALJ defeated Mount St. Mary Academy, 2-1.

    Seven seniors were recognized. They were:

    • Ashley Diaz (#3)
    • Brianna Alexiou (#9)
    • Alexandra Gonzalez (#10)
    • Emma Herko (#14)
    • Ava Almeida (#15)
    • Megan Cruz (#18)
    • Mackenzie Thompson (#23)

    The players were announced by name and greeted on the field by their families and Head Coach Brittany Casares, who gave each girl flowers.

    Johnson recognized Mount St. Mary senior players as well, also giving them bouquets of flowers.

    Also in attendance offering support to the team and the seniors were the young girls of the Clark Soccer Club, no doubt looking up to their older counterparts and imagining themselves one day playing on the high school turf.

    Once the game commenced, the girls got down to business. Though Mount St. Mary got out to an early lead, scoring a goal in the first half, the Crusaders scored two in the second to get the win.

    Freshman Gabriella Wandling and senior Brianna Alexiou each had a goal.

    Senior Emma Herko had one assist.

    The team next plays on Tuesday, October 1, at home, against Rahway, at 4 p.m.
