    Newton Braves Football Team Wins by Four Over High Point

    NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Braves Football team won 36-32 over High Point when they played them away on Friday, September 27.

    High Point got on the board first, scoring their first touchdown in the first quarter, but the kick missed and they only put up six .

    Newton scored two TDs in the second quarter and both Matt Ellsworth’s kicks were good to add 14 points but High Point answered back with two touchdowns and adding 12 points.

    The Braves made it into the end zone one more time in the third with a 2 point conversion pass. They added their final 14 points in the fourth quarter to another High Point touchdown to secure the win by four.

    Hunter Wolfe got Newton on the board in the second quarter with a touchdown off a 70-yard pass from Ellsworth. Evan Cotter made his touchdown in the second off a 45 yard interception return.

    Nick Kurilko scored the next three touchdowns for Newton. In the third quarter he scored off a 19-yard run and then scored the extra two points off a pass from Ellsworth.

    In the fourth, Kurilko scored off a 25 yard run and then off a 2 yard run. Ellsworth’s two kicks were good to give Newton the four-point win.

    Ellsworth threw for a total of 132 yards completing five of nine attempts. He also contributed with four extra points for Newton.

    Kurilko carried for 135 yards, while Cotter rushed 48 and Ellsworth covered 12 yards.

    Defensively, Kurilko led in solo tackles with 11. He was followed by Neheimiah Vazquez with seven. Cotter had 13 assisted tackles, Anthony Tudda had 12, Kurilko had 10, Wolfe had six. The Braves had a total of 102 tackles.

    The Newton High School football team moved their overall record to 2-2 and their SFC-American Blue division record to 2-1. They will play away against Jefferson on Friday, October 4 with a 6:30 p.m. kick-off
