McCaffrey Scores 4 Goals to Earn 'Game Ball' for Chatham Field Hockey in 4-0 Win vs. Randoloph; Chazen 3 Assists for Cougars

CHATHAM, NJ – Chatham field hockey coach Kaitlin Leyden wanted her team to emphasize passing and moving off the ball in its game vs. Randolph on Monday.
“A lot of the girls on the field are playing varsity for the first time, so we're working on playing and moving as a unit,” Leyden said. “So it's a lot of passing and moving off the ball, which was our one thing to focus on today. I thought they did a really good job of it.”
Two players who excelled in the game plan were senior forward Allie McCaffrey and sophomore forward Molly Chazen . McCaffrey moved off the ball into scoring positions and Chazen passed it to her, connecting on three goals in Chatham's 4-0 win at Haas Field.
McCaffrey scored all four goals to earn the “game ball” and boost her team-leading season goal total to 15. She now has 35 career goals. Chazen now has a team-leading 10 assists, one more than sophomore classmate, midfielder Ava Ewing , who did her part in getting the ball to Chazen in the circle during the decisive win vs. Randolph (5-6).

McCaffrey scored twice in the first period for Chatham (7-2-1), notching her first goal in the 10th minute. Ewing made a hit into the center of the circle and Chazen made a first-time hit to McCaffrey, who guided the ball into the cage at the right post (see below).
Less than two minutes later. Chazen passed inside to McCaffrey, who slotted her shot home to make it 2-0. It stayed that way until the third quarter when McCaffrey scored just 40 seconds into the second half, making a spin move to roll the ball inside the far post (see below).
Chazen earned her “hat trick” in assists later in the third quarter on a penalty corner. Emma Shushansky crossed the ball and Ewing collected it and backhanded a pass to Chazen, who knocked it to McCaffrey at the post for the finish (see below).
Chatham plays at Mendham (2-4-1) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
