SPRINGFIELD, NJ – The township will be imposing a “performance bond” on the developer of the Gomes construction project as an incentive to expedite its completion.

Springfield administrator John Bussiculo said at last week's Township Committee meeting that the municipality will be leaning on the Springfield Center Urban Renewal Corp. to get the long-delayed project at the corner of Morris Avenue and Caldwell Place finished soon.

“We want a guaranteed schedule and we want a performance bond,” Bussiculo said. “If they don't meet the date (agreed upon), there is a $100,000 performance bond that we will tap into.”

The developers have informed the township that they are ready to start on the reconstruction of Center Street, which would involve doing away with angled parking in favor of curbside parking.

On another redevelopment front in the township, Bussiculo said that the plans for the site for the former Scotty's Pub & Comedy Cove will be revealed next week.

“(At) the next meeting (on Oct. 8.), myself and our planner will present the development for Scotty's developments. We'll have some pictures for everybody to look at,” Bussiculo said. “We're excited about that. I think it's going to be a beautiful building. It's at the far end of town, so it's like a gateway entrance. I think you will be very impressed, very happy. It's 55 and older, so we will have no negative impact on the school system.”
