Join Nutley Police for Coffee with a Cop EventWed. Oct 2 at 10 a.m.

NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Police Department is hosting Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. at Valley Bank on Franklin Ave.

Typically, most people do not meet the police until there is an unpleasant event in their lives, which makes the sort of friendship that George Bailey had with Bert in 'It's a Wonderful Life' nearly impossible.

Changes in American culture, including the vast number of people who work outside their home community, 24-hour television news cycles, and even local Facebook groups, create artificial barriers that make having a friendship with local police officers difficult.

Coffee with a Cop' is a national program that started in Hawthorne, California in 2011 to change that.

Since its inception, the 'Coffee with a Cop' program has expanded to all 50 states and has jumped borders with events now taking place in Canada, across Europe, Africa, and Australia. Its success is due to the fact that it brings community members and police together in something other than a crisis.

On Wednesday, Oct,. 2, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.,  meet members of the Nutley Police Department, enjoy coffee, and take photos with the police at Valley Bank on Franklin Ave. (across from the post office)
