    Chargers Boys Soccer's Comeback Against Old Bridge in GMC Tournament Group D Play Falls Short

    OLD BRIDGE, NJ - The Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team took on Old Bridge High School in the first game of group play in a new format for the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament on Tuesday. Spotswood is in Group D along with Old Bridge, East Brunswick, Carteret and Piscataway High Schools. The tournament is structured like the World Cup with group play leading to a knockout round.

    Spotswood lost to the Knights 3-2. Old Bridge took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. Spotswood scored two second half goals to close the gap, but fell short of tying. Cooper Day and Alex Lagowski scored the goals for the Chargers. Kieran Barlow had one assist for Spotswood. Krystian Kotlewski and Nicholas Morells had a goal for Old Bridge. Aadit Sawant had a goal and an assist for the Knights. Collin Chessere and Dwornkowski Lucas had assists for Old Bridge. Justin Morrissey made seven saves to earn the victory in goal for the Knights. Dom Spicuzzo had eight saves for the Chargers.

    The loss drops Spotswood's overall season record to 8-3. Group play continues next week with the Chargers taking on East Brunswick High School on Thursday, October 10 at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field. East Brunswick and Piscataway tied 2-2 on Monday in their first game in group play. The Bears have an overall record of 1-5-4 this season. Game time is at 4 p.m.
