WHRHS Girls Soccer: Watchung Hills Gets a W Over Somerville, 2-1

SOMERVILLE, NJ — In a closely contested soccer match on Wednesday afternoon, Watchung Hills managed to secure a narrow victory over Somerville, with a final score of 2-1.

“I’m very happy for our players, said WHRHS head coach Brian Figueriedo.  ”It’s been a tough season and to see the girls finally get rewarded today for their hard work was extremely satisfying.  We’ve showed great resolve this season, continuing to battle each game and it’s a credit to the character of each girl on the team.”

The match kicked off with both teams exhibiting strong defensive strategies, but it was Watchung Hills that struck first. The scoring opened early in the match as Nina Dusza found the back of the net set up by an impressive assist from Alexa Goret, who deftly maneuvered past defenders to create the opportunity. As the first period progressed, Dusza struck again, doubling Watchung Hills' lead. This time, Bella Harrington provided the assist, threading a perfect pass through the defense. Dusza capitalized on the opportunity.

As the final whistle blew, Watchung Hills celebrated a hard-fought victory, improving their record to 2-10-1.
