LAKE COMO, NJ — The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh (FSOS) are set to hold the 10th Annual Pat Magovern Shillelagh 5K Run and One Mile Walk , which will take place on Saturday, October 5th at 9:00 AM. Starting and finishing in front of Bar Anticipation in Lake Como, the race will wind through the scenic Jersey Shore towns of Belmar, Lake Como, and Spring Lake. A post-race party featuring a free barbecue will be held for participants at Bar Anticipation.

The event, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Magovern, a lifelong Belmar resident and a key figure in establishing the race. Magovern, a former Belmar lifeguard who retired as Belmar Police Captain, had his legacy honored by renaming the race in 2021 following his passing. Proceeds from the event will benefit local food banks, the Belmar Jr. Lifeguards, and the Shillelagh Foundation, which offers college scholarships to local students and assists individuals in need.

The race will once again be directed by Bill Ryan, who has been organizing the event since its inception. Robyn Magovern, Patrick's widow, has also played an integral role in ensuring the race’s continued success. “My family and I are so appreciative to the FSOS for honoring Pat,” Robyn Magovern stated. “Pat was a lifelong resident of Belmar and loved the sense of community this race embodies. We are thankful to everyone who supports this event, and in turn, the FSOS will be donating its proceeds to local charities.”

The 5K run will start at 9:00 AM, with the one-mile walk following shortly at 9:05 AM. Interested participants can sign up for the race at runsignup.com or jsrc.org .

The FSOS encourages the community to come out and celebrate a decade of charity, camaraderie, and fun at this beloved Jersey Shore tradition.
