    Chargers Girls Tennis Defeats South Amboy

    SOUTH AMBOY, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Wednesday. Spotswood defeated South Amboy High School 5-0, sweeping all the Chargers matches.

    Evolet Ion won her first singles match with Genevieve Pierre in straight sets, winning, (6-2, 6-0). Grace Paprota also won in straight sets in her second singles match, defeating Mary Thomas, (6-0, 6-2). Rosemaire Caron won the first set of her third singles match with Hali McNulty 6-2. McNulty took the second set 6-2. Caron rallied to win the third set tiebreaker to decide the match, 10-7. Sarah Sullivan and Jiani Li won their first doubles match with Catalina Muzio and Amanda Torrex, (7-5, 6-2). Mia Masarik and Zara Aziz won their second doubles match with Yahirah Nicholson and Oleksandra Klym, (6-2, 6-2).

    Spotswood is back in action on Tuesday when the team travels to Edison to play St. Thomas Aquinas High School at the Oak Tree Tennis Courts. St. Thomas has an overall season record of 4-3. Matches begin at 4 p.m.
