    Spotswood PTA Hosting Annual Walk to School Day on October 9

    SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Wednesday, October 9 is National Walk to School Day. N ational Walk to School Day began in 1997. Today, the initiative to encourage school-aged children to walk or bike to school has grown to include more than 40 countries around the world. On Wednesday, thousands of schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, will be hitting the pavement to motivate parents and students to take a morning stroll to the classroom instead of hopping into the car.

    The Spotswood PTA will once again be participating in National Walk to School Day. Their goal is to join with parents, teachers, students and the entire community to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity, safety and having towns with accessible sidewalks that allow for safe travel to and from school.

    The Spotswood PTA is also sponsoring its annual poster contest. This year's themes are walking to school is fun, traffic or bike safety, our community or how to stay healthy. One winner from each school will be chosen. Winning posters will be displayed in the front hallway of each school.

    Memorial Middle School students wanting to participate in the 2024 National Walk to School Day should meet at 7:05 a.m. at Rainbow Lane and Charles Street. There are three meeting spots for Appleby School students. Appleby students can meet at the American Legion on Devoe Avenue, at the Spotswood Post Office on Main Street or on the corner of Vliet Street and Hudson Avenue at 7:45 a.m. Schoenly School students wanting to participate in Walk to School Day can meet at 8 a.m. on the corner of Easton Avenue and Jensen Avenue, the corner of Burlington Avenue or Kane Avenue or on the corner of Ertle Avenue and Madie Avenue.
