BELMAR, NJ — The sheriff's auction of The Boathouse in Belmar has been rescheduled from October 7th to November 18th , as ownership complexities cloud the future of the property. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office website confirms the new date for the auction, which will determine the fate of the corner establishment at 15th Avenue and Main Street.

Although the property itself remains slated for the auction block, the business and its liquor license are now under the control of a new operator, with Two Dawgs, owned by Tim and Matt Harmon, no longer in charge. It is still uncertain if the current operator of The Boathouse will eventually acquire ownership of the property as well. This ambiguity opens the door to various scenarios: the liquor license may remain with the location if the current operator secures the property, or it could be relocated if a new buyer acquires the property at auction.

The foreclosure follows a turbulent financial period for the Harmons, first reported by TAPinto Belmar/Lake Como . The Boathouse had previously shut down, and a Final Judgment of Foreclosure was issued, culminating in a Writ of Execution. The Harmons owe over $4 million to First Platinum Capital Corp., a debt stemming from an original loan of $3.25 million.

Despite receiving $2.8 million from a settlement with the Borough of Belmar in December 2023, the Harmons' financial struggles persisted, resulting in the planned auction of multiple properties, including 712 Philadelphia Avenue in Sea Girt, 1307 and 1309 Main Street in Belmar, and 700 Fifteenth Avenue in Belmar.

The Harmons, who also previously ran a bar at 507 Main Street in Belmar, which closed years ago, have yet to contest the foreclosure legally. First Platinum Capital Corp. is represented by attorney Dennis Uhlmann of Matrone & Uhlmann in Clifton, NJ.

Tim Harmon, in addition to his business pursuits, also serves as the Lifeguard Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for Sea Girt.
