    WHRHS Boys Soccer: Watchung Hills Shuts Out Somerville, 5-0

    WARREN, NJ — Watchung Hills shut out Somerville on Saturday, 5-0. Watchung Hills improved their record to 7-3 while Somerville fell to 4-7.

    “The boys are starting to establish themselves as a strong team and have being able to put out more consistent performances as of late,” said WHTHS head coach Estiven Benitez. “Today we were confident in our game-plan and the kids were able to execute for a 5-0 win against Somerville. We have put ourselves in a good spot to battle for the conference title this year. Our focus is now directed towards the County tournament which starts next week for us.”

    The scoring opened in the first period, with Watchung Hills quickly establishing their dominance. JP Fernandez lit the lamp first, with an assist from Charles Santos, putting Watchung Hills up 1-0. Just moments later, GianLuca Mannino found the back of the net, courtesy of an assist from Brady Sifert, extending the lead to 2-0. The third goal of the period came from Collin Wills, solidifying Watchung Hills' control with a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period.

    The second period continued in a similar vein, as Watchung Hills maintained their offensive pressure. Jake Campos scored twice in quick succession, with assists from Christopher Matos and Owen Sardo, pushing the score to a staggering 5-0.
