Piscataway Girls Soccer Beats Linden with Late Game Goal

PISCATAWAY, NJ – While it was a day off from school for most Piscataway High School students in observance of Rosh Hashanah on Thursday, girls soccer was hard at work.
Piscataway hosted Linden in a morning matchup that saw the first period go by with neither team scoring.
Junior Jasmine Cosme would later change that for the Chiefs, kicking in what would be the only goal of the game at 68 minutes. Senior Alyssa Rios got the assist.
Linden goalie, Sofia Gonzalez had 11 saves.
The win takes Piscataway’s record to 3-7-2. Linden remains winless for the season.
Earlier in the week, girls tennis fell to St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-2 at home on Wednesday. In 1st Singles, senior Prisha Shah won by forfeit in the first set, 5-4 over the Trojans’ Sofia Pedroso.
Later, in 2nd Singles, STA’s Milana Triola won the tiebreak over Piscataway’s Anna Zeng, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
The Trojans’ Vienna VanCleef also broke a tie, beating the Chiefs’ Katrina Shankar in 3rd Singles, 5-7, 7-5, 12-10.
In 1st Doubles, STA’s Alexa DeMesa and Isabella DePasquale beat Piscataway’s Esha Patel and Suhavi Puar in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.
Marissa Ballo and Madison Georgeian won the tiebreak for the Chiefs in 2nd Doubles, defeating the Trojans’ Diya Sachdeva and Kasey Deguzman 5-7, 6-2, 12-10.
The loss follows a 4-1 defeat on Tuesday when the Chiefs met up with Kearny in the NJSIAA Tournament, First Round, North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4.
Girls tennis’ record moves to 5-8 for the season. They next face New Brunswick at home on Monday.
Also on Tuesday, girls soccer fell to Spotswood, 4-1 at home. Amelia Lopez kicked in the point for Piscataway 16 minutes into the game. Samantha Paz got the assist. Chiefs’ goalie, Elitsa Mileva had 13 saves.
In gymnastics, the Chiefs fell to St. Thomas Aquinas at home in the Patton Gym, 101.825-88.925.
Field Hockey fell to Sayreville, 3-1, and girls volleyball was shut out, 2-0 by Monroe.
