LIVINGSTON, NJ — The nationwide school ranking platform Niche.com has listed Livingston Public Schools (LPS) as #12 in New Jersey and #2 in Essex County among public school districts, according to its new 2025 Best Schools and Districts rankings. Additionally, Livingston High School (LHS), which earned the highest overall grade of all nine Livingston schools with an A+, was listed as the #21 best high school in the state and #2 in the county.
In Essex County, both the district and the high school were ranked at #2 behind only Millburn Township Public Schools, which was listed as the #3 best public district in the state, and Millburn High School, which was listed as the #13 best high school in the state, comparatively. Nationally, LPS was listed as the #211 best school district, while LHS was listed as the #315 best public high school.
“ While we are careful about celebrating ‘rankings,’ we are always honored to be included on the Niche.com lists,” said LPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Daniel Fishbein. “These recognitions are a tribute to our students and staff, who make the Livingston Public Schools community a great place to teach and learn daily. We are most proud of our teachers, administrators, and staff, who work every day with all of our students and make any accolade we receive possible.”
Niche gave LPS an overall grade of A+, scoring the district as follows in individual categories:
As a district , LPS was also listed as #8 in the 2025 ranking of Best Places to Teach in New Jersey and #3 in Essex County, as well as #14 in the 2025 ranking of Districts with the Best Teachers in New Jersey (#4 in Essex County).
“We are proud of LPS for being among the best in New Jersey,” said Pamela Chirls, president of the Livingston Board of Education. “Livingston is fortunate to have educators who dedicate themselves to teaching our children; students who engage in their school classrooms and activities; and families and other community members who support our young people through a richness of programs for their personal and academic growth, Pre-K to 12.”
According to the methodology, Niche’s rankings “combine user input — ratings from current students, alumni and parents — with quantitative data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources, facilities, extracurricular activities and more.”
The comprehensive approach assesses a wide array of factors, “providing a well-rounded perspective on educational institutions across the country,” the platform explains.
