    Chargers Girls Soccer Explodes for Five First Half Goals to Down South Brunswick

    SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team defeated South Brunswick High School 6-1 on Tuesday. Spotswood scored five goals in the first half to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the halftime break. The Chargers closed out the scoring in the second half with one goal. Spotswood's victory was the team's fourth in a row and 11th of the season.

    Dani Lyons had a goal and an assist for Spotswood. Savannah Tuma scored two of the Chargers' goals. Violet Tharney, Josephine Longo and Avery McNeff also scored goals for Spotswood. Jenna Maisano had two assists. Teagan Jones, Erin Zavala and Tatum Jones each had an assist. Isabella Mele and Kaelin Obado combined for the victory in goal. Obado had six saves and Mele had two. Morgan Anderson-Thomas made eight saves for South Brunswick. Maya Warrier scored the loan goal for the Vikings on a pass from Nithya Warrier.

    Spotswood's victory over South Brunswick increased the team's overall season record to 11-2. The Chargers remain tied for first place in the Greater Middlesex Conference's White Division with Metuchen High School. Both teams have 10-1 division records and split their regular season games. Spotswood's junior varsity team tied South Brunswick 3-3.

    The Chargers are back in action on Friday when Spotswood hosts North Brunswick High School in a White Division matchup. North Brunswick has an overall season record of 2-9-2. Game time is at 4 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field.
