    Essex County Plans 2024 ‘Strut Your Mutt’ Doggy Costume Parades

    This year’s Essex County ‘Strut Your Mutt’ doggy Halloween costume contests will feature three parades for four-legged friends, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. announced.

    Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in a variety of categories, officials said. The parades are free and open to the public.

    The parades are:

    NEWARK: Saturday, Oct. 19, at Branch Brook Dog Park on Heller Parkway in Newark’s North Ward. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the parade steps off at 10 a.m. (The rain date is Oct. 20.)

    MONTCLAIR: Saturday, Oct. 26, at Brookdale Dog Park on Grove Street in Montclair. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. (The rain date is Oct. 27.)

    CALDWELL: Saturday, Oct. 26, at Grover Cleveland Park at Brookside Avenue and Runnymede Road in Caldwell and Essex Fells. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the parade steps off at 1:30 p.m. (The rain date is Oct. 27.)

    “The Essex County Dog Parks have become popular places for dog owners to bring their faithful companions,” DiVincenzo said in a news release. “In turn, the canine costume parades are growing into a favorite Halloween celebration for everyone to enjoy. Whether you own a dog or not, we invite you to come see creative costumes worn by dogs of all breeds.”
