BRIDGEWATER, NJ -- Senior halfback Jackson Jankowicz scored four touchdowns to lead Hillsborough to a 34-24 football victory over Bridgewater-Raritan on Thursday night.
Jankowicz's heroics overshadowed another excellent performance by Bridgewater-Raritan quarterback Declan Kurdyla, who ran for two touchdowns and passed for one.
The Panthers (3-4) took a 3-0 lead three minutes into the game on Joe Squicciarini's 21-yard field goal. That lead held up until the final minute of the first quarter, when Jankowicz scored on a 5-yard run and Hillsborough (4-3) took the lead for good, 6-3.
Janowicz scored on a 1-yard run with 1:42 to go in the second quarter, but that still left Bridgewater enough time to come back down the field to score on Kurdyla's 7-yard run around right end with 17 seconds to go as the Panthers drew to within three, 13-10, at the half.
Jankowicz' third TD of the night was a 52-yard run with 8:46 left in the third quarter, and his fourth was a 27-yard reception from Ryan Seamon on a slant pass with 3:11 left in the third that put the Raiders in front, 27-10.
Bridgewater-Raritan, as has been the case in several games this season, rallied back with a pair of touchdowns to cut the deficit to three. Kurdyla threw a 73-yard TD pass to a wide open Nick DiEsso deep downfield with 7:26 to go in the fourth quarter, then the Panthers' QB scored on a 9-yard run with 3:19 left on a play in which he was met at the goal line by several Hillsborough defenders before willing his way across the plane for a TD. Squicciarini's placement brought Bridgewater to within three, 27-24, with 3:19 remaining.
