ELIZABETH, NJ - Elizabeth Public Schools announced that Elizabeth High School Boys Soccer Coach Jacques Gonzales earned his 100th career win in a 4-1 victory over Cranford on September 30.

Gonzales is in his sixth year coaching the Minutemen. His tenure got off to a quick start, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and leading Elizabeth to their first state sectional title in over a decade, defeating Scotch-Plains Fanwood 2-1 in the NJSIAA North 2, Group 4 Final.

In 2019, Gonzales guided the Minutemen to another state sectional title and were undefeated until losing to first-ranked Clifton in the Group 4 Semifinals. On the season, the Minutemen finished as the third-ranked team in the state with a 20-1-4 record.

Elizabeth Boys Soccer has only lost more than four games once in his six seasons at the helm, with the team going 100-21-12.

“Elizabeth Public Schools measures its success by the standard of excellence and the Elizabeth boys soccer team, led by Coach Gonzales, has certainly sustained a standard of excellence since he took over the program in 2018,” Elizabeth Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Olga Hugelmeyer said in a news release. “The consistency in which he has produced state top 20 teams reflects his exceptional leadership and the special talent of the players he has coached. Congratulations to Coach Gonzales for reaching 100 wins and to the Minutemen boys soccer team for their continued success.”
