SUMMIT, NJ -- During the Common Council meeting this week, Roger Dornbierer was named as the new City of Summit Zoning Officer, effective October 7.

Dornbierer comes from the Township of Bridgewater, where he worked as a Certified Zoning and Property Maintenance Officer. In that capacity, he performed all duties required by the Municipal Land Use Law and the ordinances of the Township of Bridgewater relative to the development and use of land. He replaces Christa Anderson, who retired several months ago.

"Council Member Greg Vartan and I sat in on the interviews, and he was hands down one of the best choices," said Council Member Delia Hamlet, the Chair of the committee. “He eats, lives and breathes zoning, so we are very lucky to have him.” Hamlet also noted that Dornbierer brings valuable experience as the Chair of the Dunellen Planning Board.

Summit zoning staff’s Chris Nicola was promoted to Assistant Zoning Officer, effective September 23.

“Chris has been a dedicated member of our city zoning department for several years, and his hard work and commitment makes him a perfect fit for this position,” Hamlet said.  "We couldn’t be prouder of Chris getting into this role.”

Hamlet emphasized the team effort that went into the organizational changes, praising Human Resources Manager Megan Champney, Community Services Director Aaron Schrager and Council Member Vartan “for their efforts in conducting interviews and making sure we found the best candidates for these vital positions."

During the meeting, Common Council passed an agreement with the Our House Foundation, a qualified group home operator that owns and operates a four-bedroom group home on Greenfield Avenue in Summit as well as six supportive special needs condominium units and group homes.

Hamlet said this partnership was a win-win situation, helping the city meet its affordable housing obligations and providing opportunities for those in need.
