    Sparta Boys Soccer Battles Past Pope John in H/W/S Quarterfinal Round

    SPARTA, NJ – The regular play and two overtime periods left second seed Sparta high school boys soccer squad tied tenth seed Pope John on Friday playing at Cassels Field in the quarterfinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.

    Each team put one in the net in the first half. They battled to a stalemate through the second half and two overtimes. Sparta moves on after a PK shootout with the Spartans netting 5 to the Lions 4.

    Jakub Targonski scored the Spartan goal with an assist from David Baker.

    Evan Miller was in goal for Sparta stopping four PJ shots.

    The boys are 9-1-2 for the season. They host third seed Voorhees on Tuesday, October 14 for the H/W/S semifinal game.
