BASKING RIDGE, NJ - Ridge High School football standout Aidan Stieglitz has been named the Valairco Heating & Cooling Ridge Athlete of the Week following his remarkable performance in Ridge’s thrilling 28-21 victory over Phillipsburg, a win that broke a six-year losing streak against the powerhouse team. Stieglitz’s impact on the season has only continued to grow, highlighted by a recent dominant performance where he scored five touchdowns in Ridge’s 41-13 rout over Hunterdon Central.

In that latest game, Stieglitz showcased his exceptional abilities, rushing for five touchdowns and helping Ridge cruise to victory. His total rushing yards now stand at 718, with an impressive 13 touchdowns on the season, putting him at the forefront of Ridge’s offense.

In the Phillipsburg game, Stieglitz rushed for 221 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a critical 59-yard run late in the fourth quarter that set up the game-winning touchdown. His coach, Andy West, praised Aidan's impact in high-pressure situations, particularly during that decisive play. “When the game was tied, and we needed to score to win, we felt very confident in calling Aidan's number, giving him the ball, and daring them to stop him," West said.

West emphasized how Stieglitz’s physical running style is a key component of the team’s offensive strategy, especially in crucial moments. "Aidan is a very physical runner who is tough to bring down. He isn't easy to take down with just one guy—you need multiple defenders. But the problem is, he's not the only guy we have that can beat you."

Stieglitz credits his success to his offensive line and the collective effort of the team. "There were a ton of different plays across the field that helped us secure the win," Stieglitz said. “The offensive line opened up holes for me to run through all night and put their bodies on the line each and every play.”

Having played multiple positions last season, including halfback and quarterback, Stieglitz has a deep understanding of Ridge’s offense, which has helped him thrive in pivotal moments. “Learning three different positions allowed me to really understand the ins and outs of our offense and helps me on the field every play,” Stieglitz explained.

Coach West also highlighted Aidan’s leadership both on and off the field. In the critical moments of the Phillipsburg game, he noted the team’s confidence in their ability to come out on top. "Right before that final drive, I heard the guys talking to each other, saying ‘we got this,’ and Aidan was part of that confidence," West said. "With the game on the line, Aidan wants the ball in his hands—and I’m inclined to oblige him."

For Stieglitz, breaking the six-year losing streak against Phillipsburg was a special moment. “As a team, we knew how important the game was, especially the seniors,” Stieglitz said. “Beating Phillipsburg was just the start.”

Ridge’s win wasn’t just about ending a losing streak. It was also a continuation of the Stieglitz family legacy at Ridge. Both of Aidan’s brothers, Connor and Devin, were standout players for the program, and Coach West remembers coaching both of them. “Connor was fearless, and Devin was more of a shifty runner, but Aidan is a blend of both,” West remarked. “Seeing Aidan carve out his own legacy while following in his brothers’ footsteps is truly special.”

Stieglitz remains focused on the season’s goals, with his sights set on reaching 1,000 rushing yards and leading his team to a state championship. “We have more work to do, and I know Aidan will be at the forefront of that, helping lead the charge,” Coach West added.

With his physicality, leadership, and desire to excel, Aidan Stieglitz is making his mark as one of the key players in Ridge football’s success this season.

Congratulations to Aidan Stieglitz for his Athlete of the Week honors and for his outstanding performances, especially his recent five-touchdown game!
