WESTFIELD, NJ — AddamsFest, Westfield’s annual celebration of town native and Addams Family creator Charles Addams, is going all month long, and for the first time it’s getting its own musical: “Hexed: A Bewitching Musical Revue,” will be performed on Oct. 19 and 20.

In keeping with this year’s theme of “Be Witched,” “Hexed” features a variety of iconic witches that will be familiar to moviegoers.

Elphaba and Glinda from “The Wizard of Oz” and “Wicked” star in the production and take you on a musical journey that also features such famous witches as Hermoine Granger from “Harry Potter” and Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.”

The interactive musical is appropriate for all ages and reveals the history behind the characters.

The show began with an idea by Acting Out Studio owner Roberta Loew, who is producing the revue, and director Johanna Pinzler.

“Roberta hired me to direct the show. Together, she and I created and wrote the show, focusing on the songs we would pick and the witches we would feature. We picked fan favorites and ones we personally love. From there, I cast and ran the rehearsals and helped make it the show what it is now,” Pinzler said.

Preparation for the show started as early as July but has been in full swing since September.

Westfield resident Jessie Karlin plays Hermoine Granger and one of the Anderson sisters from “Hocus Pocus.”

“I auditioned and gladly got the role. It’s been going well and I love every part of it,” Karlin said. “I really love this show because it is a feel-good show to get into the Halloween spirit and there’s something for everyone, no matter what you’re a fan of.”

    If you go:

Performances will be held at the Acting Out Theatre on 439 South Ave. in Westfield at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

The price is $18 per ticket for adults and $13 for children under 14, with a maximum of four tickets per purchase. Tickets are sold online only at Tickettailor.com.

“Hexed” is sponsored by Atlantic Health Medical Group Primary Care and Women’s Health at Westfield.
