SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Temple Sholom in Scotch Plains will be marking the sixth anniversary of the attack on the Tree of Life Synagogues in Pittsburgh, PA, by showing the documentary, “A Tree of Life:  The Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting” on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 27, 2018, a gunman opened fire inside the Tree of Life building which actually housed three different small congregations. Eleven people were killed.  The film, an HBO documentary, tells the story of the day the shooting occurred as well as the aftermath of the violent attack, as they worked to rebuild and heal. The film sheds light on the collective trauma suffered by a tight-knit group and brings into sharp focus the hate-based rhetoric that seems common to many mass shootings in the United States.
