LIVINGSTON, NJ — Michele’s Dance Studio — a Livingston stable for more than 40 years whose ownership recently changed hands from the founder lovingly known across the community as “Miss Michele” to her son Ross Sandler — celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 256 S. Livingston Ave earlier this week and is now holding free trial classes through Oct. 30.

In recognition of the studio’s reopening, members of the Livingston Township Council and Livingston Business Improvement District joined Sandler and a group of young dancers for a commemorative ribbon cutting ceremony ahead of their Tuesday night classes.

Sandler, who began dancing at the studio as a young child and went on to do so professionally as an adult with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in modern dance among other credentials, was enthusiastic about the opportunity to continue his mother’s legacy and expressed gratitude toward the community for the decades of support.

“I’ve always loved dance studio life,” said Sandler. “Before going to college for dance and before performing professionally all over the world, I grew up like so many Livingston children dancing at Michele’s. The values we learned through this dance studio became life values for so many of us.

“Perseverance, teamwork and being responsible for our own performance and creating our own pathways for joy are the tools that pull us through all of life’s challenges dancing or otherwise. I love making sure that these things are embedded in the way we teach things at MDS, and it makes me proud to carry on my mom’s legacy.”

Sandler’s mother founded Michele’s Dance Studio in 1982 at 517 South Livingston Avenue and soon became a leading presence for dance education in the area. Despite moving locations multiple times since then, the local studio has maintained its impressive reputation.

Now under Sandler’s leadership, Michele’s Dance Studio is growing its “joyful, inspired and inclusive” studio community while also enriching its curriculum to include even more artistry and performance, according to the studio’s website.

Fall enrollment is now open at Michele’s Dance Studio for students as young as 2.5 years old. Dancers up to 18 years old have an opportunity to participate in a variety of styles at Michele's Dance Studio, including creative dance, hip/hop, modern/contemporary, ballet, lyrical and more. Audition-only classes for those seeking competition experience and specialty workshops for aspiring choreographers are also available.
