Following a victory in the Essex County Tournament, on Oct. 17, the Bloomfield High girls' volleyball team has advanced to the next round, where it will take on powerful Livingston.

The Bengals (11-9) and Lancers will meet in a first-round game, on Oct. 19, at Livingston, starting at 11 a.m. Bloomfield also had a pair of matches scheduled for Oct. 18, against Fair Lawn and Lebanon High School. On Oct. 21, Bloomfield is host to Newark West Side, in a 4:30 p.m. start.

Bloomfield defeated a good Science Park team, on Oct. 17, winning in straight sets, 25-17, 25-13.

The Bengals were paced by an excellent game by Kelly Perez, a senior, who had nine assists. Dayvin Bixel-Burman had another good game, with six digs and an ace. Also playing well were Olivia Centeno (2 kills, 2 digs), River Estrada (7 kills, 2 digs), Grace Belmonte (4 assists, 2 digs) and Sophia Lucero (6 kills).

Bloomfield head coach Louis Stevens knows his team will face a tough assignment versus Livingston in the next round of the county tournament. Livingston is seeded third in the tourney while Bloomfield gained the 14th seed. Millburn is the top seed, Verona is seeded second, Livingston, third and West Essex, fourth.

Earlier last week, the Bengals lost in straight sets to Nutley, on Oct. 16. Bixel-Burman had five digs and an ace, to pace the Bengals. In a setback to a very strong Hoboken squad, on Oct. 14, Bixel-Burman finished with 13 digs and Perez had five assists.

Bloomfield will also find out where it will be seeded for the state tourney, within the next 10 day
