BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - As autumn settled over Berkeley Heights, excitement filled the air Saturday afternoon at the third annual Littell-Lord Farmstead Fall Festival, hosted by the Berkeley Heights Historical Preservation Committee.

Entering from Horseshoe Road or strolling down the trails from Mountain Avenue, festival-goers were greeted by the sights and sounds of fall. The melodies of acoustic guitar filled the air, inviting everyone to pause and enjoy the moment. Families and friends felt the heartbeat of the community as crowds meandered among the vendors.

This year’s festival featured an impressive array of crafts, including handmade knit hats, painted pumpkins, wooden bowls, cutting boards, and artisanal pottery. Vendors showcased local honey, delicious baked goods, and hand-sewn accessories, each piece reflecting the creativity and care of its maker. Local novelist Pam Hegerty also attended, presenting her latest book, Jo Moonstone and The Atlantis Diamond, which captivated younger readers and the young at heart.

For the youngest attendees, the spooky trail offered a delightful blend of ghoulish giggles and friendly frights. The highlight of the event was the pumpkin garden, where kids eagerly selected their pumpkins, excited to unleash their creativity with paints and decorations. High school volunteers added to the festive atmosphere by running face-painting stations, ensuring smiles all around.

The beer garden, sponsored by Trap Rock Brewery, provided adults with a sampling of local brews as everyone soaked in the festive atmosphere. Live music created a warm and welcoming environment, making it feel like a family gathering. Attendees could also purchase special keepsake pint and sampler glasses crafted by a local artisan, adding a unique touch to the experience.

At the heart of this celebration was the historic Little Lord Farmstead. Guided tours allowed visitors to step back in time and see the ongoing efforts to restore this cherished landmark. Each tour shared stories of history and the importance of preserving our heritage. While progress has been made through fundraising and grants, further support is needed to continue these efforts.
