BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - In an exhilarating week for Gov. Livingston athletics, both the Volleyball and Field Hockey teams made impressive strides in the Union County Tournament (UCT). The Volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round after defeating Dayton and Oak Knoll in convincing 2-0 matches, while the Field Hockey team triumphed in a thrilling overtime showdown against Cranford, thanks to senior Reilly House’s game-winning goal, assisted by Hayden Panagiotou. As the Highlanders prepare for their upcoming matches, the momentum from these victories has sparked heightened anticipation for their playoff journeys.

During the week of October 14, the Gov. Livingston Volleyball team, boasting a 16-4 record, kicked off their playoff journey with a dominant performance against Dayton, winning with set scores of 25-9 and 25-18. They carried this momentum into the next round, overpowering Oak Knoll with scores of 25-16 and 25-17. The Highlanders are now set to face Westfield on Monday in the semifinals. In their previous matchup on October 10, the team narrowly lost to Westfield in a nail-biting 2-0 contest (25-23, 25-23). However, earlier in the season, Gov. Livingston achieved a historic victory over Westfield, winning 2-0 (25-18, 25-11) for the first time in team history.

Adding to the excitement, the Gov. Livingston Field Hockey team also advanced in the UCT, demonstrating their resilience in an overtime thriller against Cranford. Reilly House’s decisive goal, set up by Hayden Panagiotou, secured their spot in the quarterfinals, where they will take on Johnson on Monday at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Gov. Livingston Girls Soccer team experienced a mixed bag in the tournament. They secured a 2-0 victory over Johnson in the second round but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Scotch Plains, losing 2-0. The Boys Soccer team faced similar challenges, winning 2-0 against Dayton in the first round but falling to Union 3-1 in the second round.

Earlier this month, Gov. Livingston Girls Tennis competed in the UCT tournament, finishing in sixth place behind Kent Place (first), Summit (second), Westfield (third), New Providence (fourth), and Oak Knoll (fifth).
