SUMMIT, NJ – The 2024 Summit Lady Hilltoppers Volleyball Team has made a major comeback this season, rattling off six straight victories. As the team prepares for the County Semifinals, TAPinto Summit caught up with head coach Antonio Martins to get his views on the season.
We are in the midst of a six-game winning streak which puts our record at 13-9. We will be playing in the Semifinals of the Union County Tournament on Tuesday, which will be only the 4th time in school history that we have made it to the Final Four.
How did the team do this past week?
5-0 this past week with wins over Oak Knoll, New Providence twice, ALJ and Kent Place in the Quarterfinals of the County Tournament.
This coming week we will play in the County Semifinals on Tuesday night and host Raritan HS in our Pink Out match on Thursday. We expect to have over 500 people at that match.
Who are some top teammates helping the team?
This has been a total team effort this week that culminated in the Quarterfinal win on Saturday. I can honestly say that all 12 players contributed all week to get us to this point.
What else did we miss?
Our junior setter Mackenna Welsh eclipsed 500 assists for her career on Friday and has 403 this season before the KP match.
Liv Ge, the Senior OH, in this, her first Varsity season, is approaching 150 Kills (116 kills entering match vs KP).
Captain Caroline Henry continues to be our stalwart on defense as she is approaching 450 career digs (403 career digs, 210 this season before KP match)
