LINCROFT: This year’s Thompson Park Day took place on Saturday, October 20th from 11 AM to 5 PM. It was a day full of fun for the whole family!

There were many ways to get involved in the beloved tradition. Admission and parking were free, as well as many offerings around the park. However, there were some activities that required tickets, which were sold at kiosks. Those activities included the carnival style rides, fun house, inflatable corn maze, trackless train, climbing wall, pumpkin painting, ceramics, and archery. Some fun and free activities included apple cider demos, corn husk ghosts, spider puppets, play areas, mini golf, touch-a-truck, and more. There were plenty of opportunities to grab some snacks or desserts with the food trucks on site.

The lineup for entertainment throughout the day was stacked with unique and memorable performers. The strolling performers included Balloon Twisters for Kidz, Stitch, BOOOO-tiful Balloons, and a Beetlejuice Stiltwalker. Inside the Theater Barn, there were three shows that people could catch: Rockin’ with Miss Melissa’s Music for Aardvarks, Haunted Hallow Halloween, and Monster Mash Dance Party By Creative Experience.

There were also plenty of contests to participate in! Kids could show off their speed at the kid races, which were separated into many categories by age. The youngest racers were the “crawlers” in the Diaper Derby. The Tot Trots were made up of “walkers” to 17 months, 18 to 23 months, and 2 to 3 years. Four to six-year-olds competed in the Pee Wee Run, and there were sack races for those 7 to 8-years-old or 9 to 10-years-old.

In the pie eating contest, competitors attempted to finish an entire pumpkin pie – crust and all – by themselves before the rest of the participants. The pies were provided by Wemrock Orchards in Freehold. There was one round for kids and another for adults, and the winners each received a trophy.

The Scarecrow Contest and Jack O’Lantern contest showed off some silly and spooky creations that were created during the event. For the Scarecrow Contest, a framework and “stuffing” were provided, and guests were responsible for their own decorations. Registration for the Jack O’Lantern contest came with a pumpkin, carving utensils and decorations, and creativity was up to the carvers.

Freehold resident Juna Glatt enjoyed her time at Thompson Park Day. “Love this fall event,” Glatt said. Though she wishes there were some activities that catered towards adults, Glatt mentioned that it is “great to come with families.”

Thompson Park Day was filled with charm and fall-themed amusement! Guests experienced witty Halloween decorations, impressive entertainment and a plethora of activities under a beautiful sunny sky. It was a great addition to the fall season!
