BORDENTOWN, NJ — The Bordentown Regional School District (BRSD) will be receiving over $1 million in state aid to expand its preschool program, Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Department of Education Acting Commissioner Kevin Dehmer announced last week .

The BRSD will be getting $1,305,345 in Preschool Expansion Funds to establish or expand access to high-quality preschool programs in the 2024-2025 school year. The funding was provided through a budget resolution co-sponsored by Senator Troy Singleton in the Fiscal Year 2025 state budget, which provided $20 million to the BRSD along with 17 other school districts in New Jersey.

Four other school districts in Burlington County received funding: Chesterfield ($1,116,753), Evesham ($3,220,622), Riverton ($368,568) and Southampton ($552,852).

The state funds are estimated to provide more than 1,200 additional children the opportunity to attend a high-quality preschool program.

“Our investment in early childhood provides the youngest learners with a solid foundation for success,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “Today’s announcement builds on my ongoing commitment to expand early childhood education to more communities, with the long-term goal of ensuring every 3- and 4-year-old in the State has access to a high-quality preschool program.”

The school districts that received an award demonstrated that they can provide a high-quality preschool program to enrolled students, defined as a full-day program with a certificated teacher, an aide, a curriculum aligned with the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, and small classes that are inclusive of children with special needs who have an individualized education plan, according to the announcement .

“I am incredibly proud to announce that Bordentown Regional School District will be receiving more than $1.3 million dollars for pre-K education, and Riverton will be receiving $368k for their youngest students,” said Singleton.  "This funding, announced today by the Governor, was provided through a budget resolution which I co-sponsored in the FY25 budget providing $20M to expand or establish preschool programs throughout the state. Undoubtedly, every dollar we invest in early childhood education is ultimately an investment in creating lifelong learners and lessening the impact on local taxpayers. These two LD7 communities, and their students, will benefit greatly from this funding.
