    FANWOOD, NJ – The Fanwood 5k Pizza and Family Fun Run took off from Borough Hall on Sunday, Oct. 20th, under beautiful blue skies and warm weather. The 1 mile Family Fun Fun began at 11 a.m. followed by the 5k at 11:30 a.m. with both races beginning and ending at Borough Hall on North Martine Avenue. The 5k attracted over 300 runners with participants from throughout Union County and New Jersey and from afar away as Merina Del Rey, Calif., with hundreds more participating in the Family Fun Run. The top 5K male finisher was Luke Lang, 15, of Fanwood. The top female finisher was Tessa Conley, 16, of Scotch Plains. Kaiya Murray of Fanwood, 11, was the top Fanwood female finisher, coming in fourth. To see results click
    here . Runners were treated to free pizza by Fabio’s Bistro and Nick's. Free bottled water was also available to runners. Beer was available to those of legal age by United Brewing Co. of New Providence. Mayor Colleen Mahr welcomed participants and assisted throughout the event as did Fanwood Council members Trisha Walsh, Erin McElroy Barker, and Gina Berry along with members of the Fanwood Recreation Commission. Volunteers, both young and old, served as road marshals along the race route under the supervision of the Fanwood Police Department. The 5k and Family Fun Run are sponsored by the Fanwood Recreation Commission under the direction of Recreation Director Bob Budiansky. Mayor Mahr said money from registration fees for the two races is used to offset costs for recreation programs.
